Tag Heuer Ayrton Senna Limited Edition 2004 Watch

Ten years after the untimely loss of Formula One racing driver, Ayrton Senna, TAG Heuer is introducing a commemorative timepiece: the Link Automatic Chronograph: Ayrton Senna Limited Edition 2004.

As a tribute to Senna's speed, the polished fixed bezel features a tachometer scale. Senna's helmet colours - the colours of the Brazilian flag - adorn the dial (the dial's face is blue, the 9 o'clock counter has a green hand, the Ayrton Senna autograph appears in yellow at 4 o'clock) and the tachometer scale calibrations on the bezel are in black. Senna's logo, Senna's coloured helmet, the words "LIMITED EDITION" and the limited edition number are engraved on the customized case back.

Royalty revenues from the Link Senna 2004 was invested in social projects organized by the Ayrton Senna Foundation for Brazilian underprivileged children.

TAG Heuer Monaco Twenty Four Calibre 36 Chronograph

This is the timepiece where inspired engineering and radical looks blend in a futuristic whole. It expresses values TAG Heuer has always stood for: constant technical innovation, and a passion for ground-breaking design.

Inspired by supercharged cars, this chronograph puts the essence of the world’s toughest motor races on your wrist.

Racing cars spell ultimate power and performance. To achieve that, their makers constantly innovate. That’s what we’ve done with the Monaco Twenty Four. This is the most cutting-edge Monaco ever.

For a start, it’s powered by our 36 Calibre movement, beating 100 times faster than your heart, at 36,000 vibrations per hour. Then, it’s equipped with high-tech shock protection: the world’s first Advanced Dynamic Absorber system. The movement is suspended between four shock-absorbing arms. It seems to float, allowing you to see into the case.

The dial’s vertical blue and orange stripes echo the Gulf livery on the legendary Porsche 917K Steve McQueen drove in the movie “Le Mans”. The oversized number 24 at 12 o’clock pays tribute to the most famous endurance race in the world. Even the cover over the unique oscillating mass of the movement resembles a steering wheel.

Housed in a larger 40.5 mm case coated with black titanium carbide, the high-performance Calibre 36 movement runs at the stunning speed of 36, 000 vibrations (corresponding to a 5 Hertz frequency). Constructed of polymers used in aircraft and racing cars, the Advanced Dynamic Absorber system, developed to absorb any vibrations between 1 and 10 Hertz, protects the movement. The wide sapphire crystal case back lets you see the movement’s unique oscillating mass in action.

The four arms of the Advanced Dynamic Absorber System suspend the movement within the chronograph case, giving it a unique see-through look. The dial is fine-brushed black, with chronograph minutes at 3 and running seconds at 9 o’clock, and date at 6 o’clock.

The oversized number 24 at 12 o’clock references the world’s toughest motor race, while the orange and blue vertical stripes reproduce the livery of Steve McQueen’s Porsche. The orange is repeated in the second hand, on the supports of the Advanced Dynamic Absorber system, and in the stitching of the black alligator strap. The crown at 3 o’clock and the push buttons are polished stainless steel, while the folding buckle of the strap is titanium. Double-sided antireflective treatment on the sapphire crystal glass maximizes readability in all conditions.

TAG Heuer Monaco Vintage Calibre 11 Chronograph

Steve McQueen’s smile says it all. At the wheel of his sports car, he’s in charge. He’s free. This “King of Cool” is a hero on whom every man can model himself. Tough, a free spirit, sporty, he loved breaking the rules.

The original Monaco broke all the rules too. Launched in 1969, when everything changed forever, it achieved two firsts. The first water-resistant chronograph in a square case ; the first automatic chronograph movement. If its performance was exceptional, its unique look made it the must-have watch for designers and trend-setters.

In his motor-racing movie “Le Mans”, McQueen wore the Monaco. Tough, one of a kind, sporty, it perfectly mirrored his spirit. On his wrist it turned into a legend.

At TAG Heuer we take our design heritage very seriously. We respect what we’ve created, but constantly reinvent it. Our new takes on the Monaco collection have consistently won prestigious design awards.

To celebrate our 150th anniversary and our unique motor-racing heritage, we’ve created this Monaco special edition.

The classic square shape and the placing of the chronograph dials are the same. But look closer and you’ll notice what we’ve changed. The fine brushed and polished steel case perfectly complements the dial in grey. And grey is the perfect colour to emphasize sporty design details like the racing red on the hour, minute and second hands, or the daring placement of the indexes—horizontally.

To mark our company’s birth in 1860, we’re only producing one thousand eight hundred and sixty of these vintage but contemporary chronographs.

The unique vintage design of this chronograph makes it really stand out. The brushed, dark grey dial is the perfect foil to the hour and minute hands with their luminescent markers and subtle touches of racing red, the all red second hand, and the red hour markers. Chronograph minutes are at 9 o’clock, and running seconds at 3 o’clock and their sub-counters have striking black dials and rhodium-plated hands. The hand-applied horizontal indexes are an eye-catching feature. The design is completed by the Heuer logo at 12 balancing the angled date window at 6, while the polished crown at 9 o’clock adds another special touch.

The sapphire crystal case back shows off the decorated Calibre 11 movement. This limited edition of one thousand eight hundred and sixty chronographs has a black perforated strap fitted with a folding buckle and safety push buttons.

Tag Heuer New Watch - 300 SLR Calibre 1887 Chronograph

Some people define their times. Juan Manuel Fangio did. The symbol of a golden age of motor racing, through the fifties he was king of Formula 1. Many drivers think he is the greatest ever.

Some designs are an utter revolution. Like the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR which Fangio drove. Lighter than light, as curvaceous as an Oscar Niemeyer building, it pushed performance and design to new heights.

TAG Heuer and Mercedes-Benz: an unbeatable partnership between pioneers of design. We at TAG Heuer have worked closely with Mercedes-Benz to create an exclusive timepiece honouring both the partnership between us and the legendary car. For 150 years TAG Heuer has pursued two goals: beautiful design and absolute precision. They come together in the TAG Heuer 300 SLR Calibre 1887 Chronograph.

TAG Heuer 300 SLR’s looks transport you back to the 1950s, to a time of elegance, and groundbreaking design. The brown face, with its vintage Heuer logo, is a powerful statement of refined retro style. But design without performance is like a car without wheels. That’s why we gave this timepiece our unique in-house Calibre 1887 chronograph movement, so that you can be sure of getting effortless precision. And its bidirectional catch lever makes it energy-efficient too.

Great design should surprise you. Turn the TAG Heuer 300 SLR over to reveal its special secret: a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR engraved on the caseback. It’s an exclusive secret that only you and other owners of this limited edition will share.

This evocation of a legendary era is minutely thought out, refined, yet totally practical. The new-generation Calibre 1887 automatic movement, produced and assembled in house, enables you to start chronograph functions at amazing speed: within 2/1000ths of a second. The 41 mm polished-steel case has a tachymeter scale on the flange. The brown face displays hand-finished hour and minute hands with luminescent markers. The luminescent, hand-applied indexes sport stylish orange detailing. The vintage Heuer logo at 3 o’clock enhances this unique dial look, and the retro inspiration continues in the brown perforated leather strap, with its spectacular orange lining, and Heuer logo on the clasp.

Two sub-counters display chronograph functions: hours at 6 o’clock, minutes at 12 o’clock, both with dials. Running seconds at 9 o’clock are incorporated in the dial, keeping the design uncluttered, and the date is at 6 o’clock. The screw-in caseback features an engraved Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR and a limited edition number.

This exclusive edition of only 3000 pieces is water-resistant to 100 meters.

Tag Heuer Alter Ego Diamond Ladies Watch WP131C-BA0751

As compared to majority of the men, the women are more attracted towards stylish, retro yet elegant looking watches. Ladies watches are always crafted keeping feminine fashion and style in mind, mainly to congregate the ladies flavor. Bigger the brand, more luxurious and appealing their watches are. These days the luxury brand name watches have become a must have piece of jewelry in wardrobe for daily wear especially with ladies.

There are aplenty of brands names, designing women's watches for every attire and occasion, but there are few among them who have earned a distinct standing for themselves. Tag Heuer is one such brand, which has produced couple of all time popular ladies watches. The Tag Heuer alter ego diamond ladies watch, model number WP131C-BA0751 is one of them. The design and appearance of the watch is so refreshing with its royal blue mother of pearl dial. It has got diamonds as hour markers to give it an imperial and regal touch. The blue mother of pearl dial is wrapped in brushed stainless steel case and bracelet to create a majestic appearance. Charmingly elegant style and very unique design is the real USP of this watch.

This Tag Heuer WP131C-BA0751 ladies watch is extra ordinary time piece in many ways. It's simple yet very attractive, classic and brilliant design makes it an everyday watch, which will normally go with any type of dressing. It's one perfectly sized and designed ladies wrist watch. Because of its graciously sized face, it will not swallow your wrist even if you have a small wrist. The band of the watch is 18.00 mm in width and 7.50 inches in length. Because of it's perfect size and awesome looks, the watch looks both feminine and professional at the same time. The watch is also water resistant up to 100 meters, so you can happily go scuba diving wearing it. It also features very precise quartz movement.

However, since the watch is coming from one of the world's most prestigious watch manufacturer and luxuriant brand, the price of this watch is on a higher end. Retailing around $1200 at most of the retail stores around the world, this watch has more of luxury associated with it. Tag Heuer as a brand has a reputation for manufacturing quality, durable, posh products, and this wrist watch has 12 diamonds on its dial as hour markers adding to the overall cost of this watch. This model could have been even more popular if it was more affordable by the masses. But having said that, this watch certainly is a splendid work of craftsmanship and brilliant design.

TAG Heuer “Diamond Fiction” Watch Bracelet

TAG Heuer’s latest creation, the “Diamond Fiction” watch bracelet was recently shown for the first time by the elite brand’s latest Ambassador, Hollywood star Uma Therman. With TAG Heuer’s 2005/2006 Year of Diamonds theme, a stunning ladies watches collection was shown but the “Diamond Fiction” stole the show. It looks like a bracelet of red satin positively dripping with Top Wesselton diamonds (879 to be exact) but when you press a button on the side, some of the diamonds change colour to red offering the time in a digital display. Only three single and exclusive timepieces were created at the TAG Heuer workshop at the Chaux-de-Fonds with a value of EU100 000 euro each.

TAG Heuer describes the Diamond Fiction as “an assertively feminine timepiece for women of uncommon poise and confidence, for whom glamour is a passion, luxury of the essence, and indulgence an absolute necessity” so we can see why they trotted out the lovely Uma to showcase the magnificent and exclusive timepiece. The Diamond Fiction’s unique shape is set with 879 Top Wesselton (5.8 carats), full cut, VS/SI (1.1mm) diamonds. Some (54) of the diamonds (3.8 carats) hide LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) that display the time in glowing red.

This startlingly chic deluxe diamond digital masterpiece is classic TAG Heuer, reminiscent of some of the prestigious brand’s most distinctive creations and marking the return to audacious form and provocative style.

Superstar Thurman is the latest Global Brand Ambassador for TAG Heuer joining golfers Tiger Woods and Ian Poulter, F1 racers Juan Pablo Montoya and Kimi Raïkkönen, tennis star Maria Sharapova and actor Brad Pitt.

Ultra-exclusive Chronograph by TAG Heuer and Mercedes-Benz

One of the most exclusive commemorative timepieces in the world has been created to celebrate the launch of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren super sports car. To be eligible to buy the as-yet unpriced TAG Heuer SLR Chronograph, you must OWN a US$400,000 McLaren SLR. Only 3500 McLarens will be made over the seven year production run.

The SLR Chronograph by TAG Heuer, like the high-performance, 200-mph, ultra-luxury sports car that inspired it, is an audacious creation, at the avant-garde of high technology and design, yet with the look and allure of a true classic.

The direct result of TAG Heuer's historic relationship with McLaren Mercedes, the SLR Chronograph reflects the values common to both the brand and the team: passion, performance and sporting prestige. Like the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, the SLR chronograph combines a unique mechanical movement together with a daring inspiring design.

TAG Heuer and Team McLaren Mercedes: A Successful Partnership

Since 1985, TAG Heuer has had a strong relationship with the Formula 1 team, creating not only one of the longest-running associations between a leading racing team and a luxury company in the history of Formula One, but also one of the most successful: six Constructors' World Championship titles, eight Drivers' titles (three with Alain Prost in 1985, 1986 and 1989, three with Ayrton Senna in 1988, 1990 and 1991 and two with Mika Häkkinen in 1998 and 1999).

The winning relationship goes back earlier still, to 1955, when Juan-Manual Fangio drove the original Mercedes-Benz SLR through the tight hairpin bends of one of the most gruelling road races in the history of motorsport: the 1000-mile Mille Miglia. During this race and all others, Fangio wore on his wrist, like every F1 World Champion since, a TAG Heuer, then named Heuer, timepiece.

Today, the TAG Heuer/McLaren Mercedes partnership is stronger than ever. All McLaren Mercedes cars carry TAG Heuer technology, not just in F1 but at all professional levels of the sport. McLaren Mercedes drivers and TAG Heuer Brand Ambassadors Kimi Räikkönen and David Coulthard, like their predecessors Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna, and Mika Häkkinen, endorse TAG Heuer timepieces at every race or testing session. They also participate actively in the design and development of new TAG Heuer watches and functionalities.

In 2004 and to celebrate 20 years of partnership, TAG Heuer has renewed and extended its partnership with Team West McLaren Mercedes and its drivers, Kimi Raïkkönen and David Coulthard, becoming the team's Corporate Partner and Official Timekeeper. The idea for the chronograph was conceived in the F1 paddock during an encounter between TAG Heuer CEO and President Jean-Christophe Babin and the director of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Project, Klaus Nesser.

The SLR limited-edition Chronograph by TAG Heuer

Fluid lines, high end internally-developed architecture, unconventional styling, leading-edge ergonomic design: the SLR chronograph, like the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren to which it pays tribute, is at the forefront of design. Exclusively designed for Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren owners, the daring chronograph was designed and developed by TAG Heuer product development teams in Chaux-de- Fonds, together with the Geneva watchmaker, Jean-François Ruchonnet.

It draws on the unique design acumen of the world's most prestigious luxury-car manufacturer and the engineering and horological savoir-faire of the world's most prestigious maker of luxury sports watches. The two logos - the TAG Heuer shield and the star of Mercedes-Benz - grace the black dial, which looks like a sports car dashboard. The two SLR "gill" patterns stamped at 3 o'clock pay homage to the car's signature side-mounted exhausts, an echo of the 1950s SLRS.

Another unique touch is the off-centred date counter at 7:30. Under the hood lies the peerless Calibre 36 automatic movement. Like the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren's hand-built, supercharged 626-hp V8 engine, this is an exceptional source of power. The only 1/10 of a second automatic chronograph, beating 36,000 times a second, it is the standard-bearer of TAG Heuer's watchmaking tradition. Yet it also represents an exciting new innovation, unique to the SLR Chronograph: the Calibre 36 has been specially outfitted by TAG Heuer watchmakers with a regulator that provides the TAG Heuer SLR's dial the look and utility of a sports-car dashboard, with individual gauges for each function. All of which can be read simultaneously. Therefore it's name: Calibre 36 Regulator.

For reading the time, the hour hand has been shifted to the counter at 12 o'clock, while the hand at the center of the dial displays minutes and the counter at 9 o'clock displays seconds. For chronograph functions, the 6 o'clock counter displays hours, the 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock displays minutes and seconds sweep by on the central hand.

Another inspiration drawn from the prestigious sports car is the unique placement of the timepiece's chronograph push buttons on the top of the fine-brushed stainless-steel case. This extraordinary ergonomic innovation - a first in the world of watchmaking - mirrors the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren's unique steering wheel gearshift. Water resistant to 50 meters, the polished crown is adorned with the Mercedes-Benz logo, while the caseback is engraved with a limited edition number.

The SLR Chronograph is 14mm thick, with a diameter of 40 mm from 3 to 9 o'clock. Both sides of the sapphire crystal are treated with an anti-reflective coating. The dial is black and the stylish strap is in crocodile leather, with a folding, push-button buckle. Luminous markers give added visibility to the hands.

TAG Heuer Porsche Club of America Limited Edition

Probably one of the most fruitful partnerships in this field of watch manufacturing, TAG Heuer and Porsche Club of America bring on the market an extremely desirable timepiece for the collectors, a watch that puts together the elegance representative of TAG Heuer and the sportiness of Porsche Club of America into creating this amazing Limited Edition TAG Heuer Porsche Club of America Watch.

If TAG Heuer needs no further presentation being a long-lasting watch making brand, then we can say that Porsche Club of America is an organization dedicated to Porsche enthusiasts from the States and Canada, established back in 1955 and which dedicates its pursuits to racing, rallying, autocrosses and other specific activities. 55 years of activity of the Porsche Club of America were celebrated accordingly, by rising to the reputation of such sports-oriented club, with the introduction of its Limited Collection of TAG Heuer original watches.

The new Limited Edition TAG Heuer Porsche Club of America Watch maintains its dedicated spirit towards racing by providing an appearance inspired by the Monaco Chronograph model made popular by Mc’Queen in the 1970s. One of the legendary timpieces introduced by TAG Heuer, the Monaco model is nowadays improved and redesigned to represent and to honor this amazing 50 years anniversary of the Porsche Club of America.

The design of the new Limited Edition TAG Heuer Porsche Club of America Watch maintains the same sporty color combination of red, white and black, while making use emblematically of the logo of the TAG Heuer brand and an additional 55 figure to express the anniversary pf PCA. The rectangluar case embraces a sporty design, being completed by the lateral pushers and crown available to adjust the functions of the chronograph. The dial is very modern, following the Monaco Collection pattern and shows the time through luminiscent coated hands, while the hand of the seconds is on red. Two sub-dials loacted at 3 o’clock and respectively, at 9 o’clock express the functions of the chronograph, while a date window can be traced discreetly at 6 o’clock.

The automatic movement based on a chronograph function is what activates the inner working of this extremely appealing TAG Heuer Porsche Club of America Watch and it offers the expected accuracy of a limited edition collectible timepiece.

Like all limited editions, the new Limited Edition TAG Heuer Porsche Club of America Watch will only be distributed in a symbolic number of 55 pieces, starting from September 2010. The price for this remarkable watch can go up to $5,500, but the fact that it is a TAG Heuer original and also one of the collectibles, it’s definitely worth the money.

Tag Heuer Aquaracer 500 Calibre 16

The Swiss brand’s constant search for better performance in and on the water has led to some of its greatest luxury design achievements, including this year’s new AQUARACER 500M Chronograph and AQUARACER 500M Full Black.

TAG Heuer’s passion for the dreamworld of open seas and the demanding challenges of professional diving and sailing is as legendary as its love for the open road and the world of motor sports. The Swiss brand patented its first water-resistant case in 1895 and launched its first water-resistant wrist chronograph in 1939. In 1942, it presented its first regatta stopwatch, the YACHTING timer. The Heuer SOLUNAR (1949) was the world’s first watch with tide indicator, and the MAREOGRAPH-SEAFARER (1950) was the first chronograph with a tide level indicator and regatta dial counter on a sub-counter.

In 1968, it began outfitting boats with the NAVIA, a water-resistant instrument for boat dashboards. It also brought out the SKIPPER, a mechanical chronograph with regatta countdown, which was re-edited in 1972 as an automatic chronograph version.

In 1982, the 2000 SERIES was launched. Designed by Jack Heuer, the 2000 was the first line of professional sports watches equipped with the now-famous

“TAG HEUER 6 FEATURES”:

1) Scratch-resistant domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflection treated interior

2) Screw-in crown with double safety gaskets to prevent dust or water penetration

3) Water resistance guaranteed to 300 meters

4) Luminescent hands, hour markers and bezel scale for easy reading underwater

5) Unidirectional turning bezel to ensure error-free elapsed dive-time measurement

6) Double-safety, quick-action bracelet clasp to prevent accidental opening.

These technical specifications have since become the industry standard for authentic and highest quality dive and sports watches.

In 2002, TAG Heuer went deeper still, strengthening its technical performance and reliability underwater with the AQUAGRAPH. A professional diving chronograph with patented auto-lock turning bezel and optimized underwater readability, it was rigorously tested — and fully approved and endorsed — by the Navy SEALs, the Special Operation Forces of the United States Navy.

In 2003, TAG Heuer turned the 2000 Series into the AQUARACER, a versatile and sophisticated reinterpretation of the 2000 series, faithful to its technical and design codes, but with a higher-end finish and the luxury spirit of a stylish accessory.

In 2007, TAG Heuer brought out the AQUARACER CALIBRE S CHRONOGRAPH, the world’s first electro-mechanical movement with regatta mode — a unique, backwards-turning hand for regatta countdown.

In 2009, it launched its most charismatic collection of water sports-inspired watches yet: the AQUARACER 500M. Endorsed by TAG Heuer spokesperson and environmental advocate Leonardo DiCaprio, it is one of the most successful lines in the brand’s history.

This year, TAG Heuer celebrates five generations at the helm of Swiss avant-garde design with two prestigious additions to the AQUARACER 500M fleet.

THE AQUARACER 500M AUTOMATIC CHRONOGRAPH (44MM)

In professional diving, pressure is not just a metaphor. It’s 1,000 kilos a cubic metre. A watch that can withstand this crushing force, not to 50 or 100 but to 500 metres under water, is no more an “accessory” than a diving mask or an oxygen tank. Without it — to check elapsed time, to time safety stops during ascent — you shouldn’t be in the water.

The TAG Heuer AQUARACER 500M AUTOMATIC CHRONOGRAPH (44MM) more than meets the requirements. The first chronograph in the AQUARACER 500M series, its robust, fully functional design addresses very specific demands — great visibility and easy handling under water, extreme resilience, and safety features you can count on in even the most severe conditions.

It is also a sophisticated work of contemporary design. The wide diameter case (44mm) is in polished and fine-brushed steel. The unidirectional turning bezel is in fine-brushed steel with a “soft touch” black coating on the top. The bezel’s polished “easy-grip” studs are grooved on the sides to facilitate handling, even with diving gloves. An automatic helium valve is integrated into the case at 10 o’clock. This one-way valve is activated when the differential between the inner and the outside pressure reaches a critical level.

The 3 counters on the vertically streaked black dial give chronograph hour (6 o’clock), chronograph minute (12 o’clock) and running second (9 o’clock). “AQUARACER 500M” is written above the date window at 3 o’clock, which has a magnifying lens for easier legibility. The name of the automatic chronograph’s famous movement — “CALIBRE 16 - AUTOMATIC” — is written at 6 o’clock on the chronograph hour dial.

For the strap, there are two classic TAG Heuer options: black rubber or a three-row bracelet in fine-brushed steel with polished central row and edges.

Coming October, 2010

THE AQUARACER 500M CALIBRE 5 “FULL BLACK”

Power, contrast, and strength: the all-black AQUARACER 500M is an audacious watch designed for men who stand out. It houses a TAG Heuer Calibre 5 Automatic movement inside its fine-brushed titanium case, which is 43mm wide and black-titanium carbide coated. The screwed-in crown is black “soft-touch” rubber coated, as well as the unidirectional turning bezel which also bears a yellow luminescent dot at 12 o’clock.

The jet-black dial has a vertical streak effect, with all-conditions readable yellow-green luminescent markers on the black finished hands and indexes, and on the vertical sides of the magnified date window at 9 o’clock. The lettering is in white: “500 M” written next to the date window, “CALIBRE 5” and “AUTOMATIC” at 6 o’clock on the dial. The caseback is in scratch-resistant smoked sapphire. The fine-brushed automatic helium valve is at 10 o’clock.

The black rubber strap has a solid titanium clasp with safety push buttons.

Coming September, 2010

Ref: WAJ2180.FT6015

Other standouts in the 500M fleet:

The AQUARACER 500M Calibre 5 (43mm), with fine-brushed steel bezel and case, black, silver or blue dial with vertical streak effect and striking orange-tipped second hand; and the upscale AQUARACER 500M Calibre 5 Steel & Gold (43mm), with black dial and unidirectional turning bezel in fine-brushed massive rose gold (18K 5N), and a steel bracelet or rubber strap.

Resolutely masculine in design, the AQUARACER 500M series are lifestyle timepieces for men seeking the ultimate in authenticity. High-performance, go-anywhere, do-anything, they redefine the codes and conventions of luxury Swiss watchmaking.

A DEEP COMMITMENT: LEONARDO DICAPRIO AND THE AQUARACER

The AQUARACER convoy is captained by TAG Heuer Brand Ambassador Leonardo DiCaprio. A long-time environmental activist, the legendary actor is committed to global water issues — from protecting the world’s oceans to ensuring access to clean drinking water. TAG Heuer backs his efforts to bring about real and lasting change through a series of sustainability initiatives at its Swiss workshops and worldwide subsidiaries. DiCaprio has inspired TAG Heuer to implement new environmental measures — recycling, reduced water and fuel consumption, lower-impact building and heating alternatives — that have dramatically reduced the brand’s carbon footprint.

TAG Heuer also supports Leonardo DiCaprio’s global partners — Green Cross International and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC).

Key to this philanthropic partnership is the AQUARACER 500M LEONARDO DICAPRIO LIMITED EDITION. The first watch co-designed by Leonardo DiCaprio, it is emblazoned with either a NRDC or a Green Cross International logo on its dial. Royalties generated from its sales go directly to the two environmental organizations, as part of a multi-million dollar initiative spearheaded by Leonardo DiCaprio.

In 2010, TAG Heuer proudly celebrates 150 years of pioneering Swiss watchmaking. Founded in Saint-Imier in 1860 by Edouard Heuer, TAG Heuer has set many major milestones of high-end watchmaking, especially in the field of chronographs and ultimate precision. Today, one of the largest and most desired brands in the luxury watch industry, the Swiss legend draws upon its active engagement in the world of sports to create the most accurate timing instruments and watches in the world.

TAG Heuer is the first watchmaker to master luxury chronographs with an unsurpassed precision of 1/10th, 1/100th and 1/1,000th of a second. From the Olympic Games in the 1920s to its role as official timekeeper for the legendary Indy 500 race, with accuracy at 1/10,000th of a second, TAG Heuer, in a constant quest for innovation, excellence, performance and prestige, continues to aim ever higher. This is reflected in its quarter-century partnership with F1 team Vodafone McLaren Mercedes, its 7-year partnership with 2008 Formula 1 World Champion, Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, and his new teammate , 2009 Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button. TAG Heuer, more than ever, epitomizes prestige and performance through active partnerships with Hollywood icon Leonardo DiCaprio and Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, LPGA star Suzann Pettersen and WTA tennis champion Maria Sharapova. TAG Heuer is a privileged member of the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie (FHH), the most exclusive club in the Swiss watchmaking industry.

The newest addition to the TAG Heuer legacy is the Calibre 1887, an in-house, Swiss manufactured, integrated column-wheel chronograph movement that pays tribute to the original Heuer oscillating pinion of 1887, one of the brand's first patents and a major benchmark in modern watchmaking. From March through October 2010, TAG Heuer's revolutionary and ecologically conscious "Odyssey of Pioneers" exhibit, the first-ever round-the-world trip in a 100% electric car designed specifically by Tesla Motors for TAG Heuer, will showcase in Olympic flame fashion the brand's past, present and future collections across 15 key cities of the world.

TAG Heuer Aquaracer Calibre S Regatta

The TAG Heuer 2000 series is being re-released as the new Aquaracer series with an interesting new addition: the Calibre S.

The most striking feature of the Aquaracer Calibre S is the sub-dials. The Calibre S actually uses two semi-circular sub-dials, inspired by sports cars' tachometers. Since the sub-dials are not circular, as you might have guessed by now, the Calibre S uses bi-directional motors to position the tiny hands. The point isn't just to be different, but to create a much more readable and intuitive interface. Chronograph sub-dials are not particularly easy to read, especially to the untrained eye, so the Calibre S takes a completely new approach by using the main three hands to display time, elapsed time in chronograph mode, and time remaining in countdown mode, the theory being that the three main hands are by far the easiest to read (as opposed to tiny hands on sub-dials.). The right sub-dial shows 1/10 in chronograph mode (when time is stopped), and in time mode, both sub-dials, work together to indicate the date. In any other mode, the left sub-dial indicates which mode you are in.

The most sailing-specific feature on the watch is the regatta countdown timer. A regatta is a fancy word for a boat race, and apparently most sail boat races allow 10 minutes for the boats to maneuver into the optimal starting position. When the 10 minutes are up, the race begins. The TAG Heuer Aquaracer Calibre S has a regatta countdown timer which automatically starts counting down from 10 minutes, can be re-synchronized at 5 minutes (apparently there's a 5-minute warning), and when the full 10 minutes have elapsed, the mode automatically switches to chronograph so that you can time the race. Very slick, in an aristocratic, sailboat-racing kind of way.

TAG Heuer 2010 New watch - Pendulum Concept

Now, to mark its 150th anniversary, TAG Heuer proudly introduces the TAG Heuer Pendulum Concept, the first-ever mechanical movement without hairspring.

Since the creation of the Galileo-inspired hairspring by Christiaan Huygens in 1675, the regulating organ of all mechanical watches has been based on a balance wheel and spiral-shaped torsion hairspring system. A coiled strip of fine metal alloy, the hairspring provides the torque necessary for the balance wheel to oscillate and regulate its frequency. Over the centuries, it has been significantly modified and improved. Charles-Edouard Guillaume (1861-1938), the son of a Swiss watchmaker, discovered new alloys (Invar and Elinvar) that significantly reduced the metal spring’s thermal sensitivity. Guillaume won the Nobel Prize for Physics for this invention in 1920.

With the challenge of temperature diminished by Guillaume’s alloys, the spiral hairspring regulation system came to dominate mechanical movement design. However, the mechanical hairspring has three serious design limitations: a mass that makes it sensitive to gravity and deforms its geometry; a material that makes it sensitive to thermal expansion; and a divergence between its geometric centre and its centre of mass. These may cause isochronal issues that can be technically and physically improved but never completely eliminated.

Overcoming the design limitations inherent in the traditional regulation system by eliminating the need for a spiral hairspring was the first challenge TAG Heuer set for itself. The second was keeping the movement 100% mechanical: conventional watchmaking wisdom has always held that a mechanical watch without spiral hairspring would necessarily require another energy source for its regulation.

In the TAG Heuer Pendulum Concept, the traditional hairspring is replaced by an “invisible” or virtual spring derived from magnets. The complete device forms a harmonic oscillator. The magnetic field, generated by means of 4 high-performance magnets and controlled in 3D through complex geometric calculations, provides the linear restoring torque necessary for the alternative oscillations of the balance wheel. The oscillating period of the TAG Heuer Pendulum Concept is resistant to changes from perturbing forces, which is what makes it an exceptionally good timekeeping device. The movement built with this revolutionary oscillator is fully mechanical and does not contain any electronics or driven actuators. The magnets generate a constant field over decades.

TAG Heuer Pendulum Concept, the world’s first oscillator in a mechanical movement without hairspring, beats at 43,200/hour (6 Hertz) — making it a superlative representative of TAG Heuer’s unique mastery of high frequencies and ultimate precision. It requires no additional components and is based on physical magnetic properties. It gets its name from an earlier Huygens creation — the pendulum clock of 1657.

The TAG Heuer Pendulum Concept not only overturns 3 centuries of conventional watchmaking tradition, it also represents in and of itself an enormous technological leap forward. In a classical spiral hairspring system, the effect of gravity due to mass is a dominant issue. With the TAG Heuer Pendulum Concept, the problem no longer even exists. There is no loss of amplitude and the movement’s frequency can be modulated on a very large spectrum of frequency without overburdening the power supply. The result is a significant increase in precision (division of time) and performance (frequency accuracy and stability).

The TAG Heuer Pendulum Concept is the first-ever magnetic oscillator without hairspring capable of providing a restoring torque comparable to that of a hairspring: the basic principle of the Swiss anchor escapement is therefore unchanged, but the absence of mass and therefore inertia allows for much larger frequencies. Theoretical precision is significantly higher as it is possible to oscillate at small angles (the elementary principle of oscillator accuracy) without altering the return torque and, especially important, without causing geometric deformations.

The TAG Heuer Pendulum Concept project involved in-house TAG Heuer R&D engineers and watchmakers working in an extensive research partnership with microsystems research experts at the Integrated Actuators Laboratory (LAI), part of the Microtechnics Institute of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL).

Starting from scratch has required advanced digital simulation coupled with physical analysis (mechanics, magnetism and thermal behaviour). It took TAG Heuer’s R&D team 3 years of intensive digital 3D simulation research to precisely orient the TAG Heuer Pendulum Concept’s virtual magnetic spring.

An old adversary still remains: the magnets are sensitive to temperature. The challenge facing TAG Heuer now is to discover the magnetic equivalent of invar-elinvar: to, in a sense, add Charles Edouard Guillaume’s accomplishments to those of Christiaan Huygens. Once addressed, the TAG Heuer Pendulum Concept will no longer be a concept but a new milestone in mechanical regulator technology. As with the V4, this may take years, but TAG Heuer is committed to taking on the challenge and pursuing the epic Pendulum adventure.

TAG Heuer does not claim that the Pendulum Concept will take the place of traditional, high-quality Swiss hairsprings in mainstream mechanical movements, but rather offer a “Haute Horlogerie” alternative, which could lead to high-end limited editions in the future, as was the case with the Monaco V4’s movement transmission innovations.

The design of the TAG Heuer Grand Carrera Pendulum Concept is faithful to the exclusive luxury codes of the GRAND CARRERA: polished and angled edges, curved and facetted horns on both sides of black titanium covered steel case. The special dial aperture at 9 o’clock allows to admire the beating heart of TAG Heuer Pendulum Concept’s avant-garde movement.

Inside and out, this is a superlative timepiece, a noble extension of the GRAND CARRERA collection and a worthy showcase of a breakthrough advancement in watchmaking technology.

The TAG Heuer Grand Carrera Pendulum Concept opens a promising new era in watchmaking, with potentially powerful new movements precise to ever-smaller fractions of time. The effect on future watches and chronographs design and function may be huge — and TAG Heuer once again leads the way even though it will take years before it will become a commercial realty. Patents have been filed and are pending.
